What have you accomplished on the city council?
During my first 18 months as your Council member I have been able to accomplish the
following:
I have formed a Tri Agency committee that includes: the City of Palmdale, Palmdale
School District, A. V. High School District, West Side School District, Palmdale Water
District, L.A. County Sheriff Department, and L.A. Fire Department to communicate
between agencies so as not to duplicate efforts to benefits our community. We have
met at least three times so far, and I have personally invited The Palmdale Aerospace
Academy to participate (May 21, 2018 TPAA Board of Director’s meeting),
I have been successful in creating district appointments to the Planning Commission to
represent our districts is a fair system where each Council member gets to make his/her
appointment to the Planning Commission. (Nov. 7, 2017 CC Agenda Item 9.3.
Ordinance 1505). No more shifting planning commissioners from the west side to the
east side overnight to politicize the Council make up. (By the way, you do not have to
have a high school diploma to serve your community in any capacity. June 5, 2018, CC
Agenda Item 9.4),
I have been successful in securing funding for shade structures at Yellen Park thru
reaching across the aisle and asking for funding from Los Angeles County Regional
Park and Open Space District for Fifth Supervisorial District Proposition “A” Excess
Funding, for Yellen Park shade structures thanks to Supervisor Barger. Funds are also
available for the construction of the sidewalk along Hillcrest Street at the east end of
Yellen Park which also provides a Safe Route to School to Buena Vista Elementary
students (May 5, 2018 CC Item 9.1),
The General Plan update is at the Request for Proposals stage (May 1, 2018 Agenda
Item CC 7.8). Our current General Plan dates to 1994, about time we can plan our
City’s growth with a vision for tomorrow, not the past,
I have successfully made available to my constituents a secluded one-acre open space
to the residents of District 4 along 47 th Street East between Avenue R-2 and Avenue R-
4. Park amenities to come soon,
This is only the beginning of our journey together. My priorities for my next term are the
following:
We have finally purchased the City’s 18,000 street lights (May 1, 2018 Agenda Item CC
7.8). This is one step closer to providing Citywide Wi-Fi (for educational purposes) in
our City. The Palmdale School District continues to support that idea. Now that we
owned the street lights and are capable to support other amenities, such as Wi-Fi
routers and the PSD can provide and monitor the student’s use thru filtering internet
access, we can truly be a Smart City like many others in California,
Yellen Park Improvements Phase II. I remain committed to the full construction of the 24
acre park site. With no community output whatsoever, the City designed the 12 acres
keeping in mind the desert landscape that we live in, nice matured Joshua Trees,
decomposed granite surface throughout, a nice playground, NO SHADE structures. The
first dog park in the City, also NO SHADE structures provided. I am putting together a
community meeting for us to provide input on where to place the shade structures
where we feel they better serve us, the park users,
I continue to have Council and Staff conversations about building an indoor Soccer
facility for our youth, why should we continue to have poor sports facilities on the east
side of Palmdale? I say let’s have a “Best of the East” like we have on the west side,
Traffic Safety issues around our schools is a must. The lack of sidewalk at Los Amigos
east of 65 th Street East along Avenue R-8 is one of my priorities just like it was to
provide a sidewalk along Hillcrest St. south of Avenue S towards Buena Vista.
As your City Councilman, I will continue to work toward bringing new businesses to
Palmdale by ensuring there is a master plan in place to make Palmdale even more
attractive for business relocation and attractive to new families. A movie theater is
looking at the east side (see “A movie house soon on the east side?” AV press article
10-16-2017).
